We didn't get too awful much, but I really like both of the things I got. So here goes:
1. Shiny Brites! I was pleasantly surprised to find these among the Dollar Store Christmas Crap on the shelves at Goodwill. They also had a box of red balls and one of blue balls, but they were just plain ones. I really like these indents and other fancies. But wait a second. Let's dolly in for a closer look at that price tag...
One dollar. I know! This was definitely my Buy O' the Month.
2. Tupperware! It just wouldn't be a worthwhile trip if I didn't come home with at least one piece of Tupperware. I had planned on getting a deviled egg plate (because the Girl Child will be visiting and she likes them), but when I saw this official Tupperware Deviled Egg Keeper, I had to get it. Now I can make them and they won't stink up my fridge (side note: I don't think I've ever made deviled eggs before. Wish me luck!) Goodwill, $1.50
And that's it, really. As a Public Service, I'd like to also show a couple of things that I didn't get. To wit:
A: Pyrex! This set was in darn fine condition, and I don't think the price was too bad ($4, $6, and $8, top to bottom), but I don't collect this pattern and I really have no need for these casseroles. But this set (and a promotional casserole I saw a while ago) brings up a question: Even if I don't collect a particular Pyrex pattern, should I be buying these things if they're reasonably priced and in good condition? I hate to leave them behind if there's someone out there in Blogland who wants them, but I just don't know. Thoughts?
Click to embiggen. No, really. Do it. |
B: Pissed-off skater girl! This is one of those things I had to take a picture of and send to the Girl Child. Her response? "She's actually kind of fabulous with that blush and those highlights!"
Aaannnddd that's pretty much it for this week. Linking up with the goodness at Sir Thrift A Lot, The Nifty Thrifty, and The Remnant
I am dying over your Shiny Brites. JEALOUS! What a find. And I am dying over that Pyrex. I might have done a cartwheel over both of these things!!!
ReplyDeleteA buck for a box of Shiny Brite fancies! I think I might have peed myself a little.
DeleteIf I had a basement or a garage or something, I would have totally bought that Pyrex. In this case, I think not having much storage space actually works in my favor!
Hahaha! I like your daughters response!
ReplyDeleteThose Shiny Brites for $1?!!!!!! Holy crap, that's the best deal ever!
See my comment above ;)
DeleteI should probably make a whole post of the weird pictures I've sent to The Girl Child and her responses.
You may want to buy that Pyrex and then sell it to people you know who would like it.
ReplyDeleteI wish that I had found those ornaments because my mum collects.
Give me your shopping list and I'll keep my eyes peeled for ya.
DeleteShiny Brites for a dollar?! Eeeeeeeeeeeek! I'm dying! Lucky you:-)
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to leave good Pyrex behind if it's not a pattern you collect. I normally just check to see if it's a good pattern to resell. If it is, then I have more money for patterns I do collect!

I know! Hubs was getting a little tired of me waving the Shiny Brite box around singing "A dollar, a dollar!!"
DeleteI really do have a hard time leaving good Pyrex behind, but the lazy side of me (which is dominant), just doesn't want to go to the trouble of selling it online, since packing it well is such a pain.
I probably should have a booth in an antique mall.
I love the Christmas ornaments! I never find them but seeing them on blogs encourages me to keep hunting.
ReplyDeleteOh, the hunt is 90% of the thrill of thrifting! I've been on kind of a lucky streak lately, but there have been 6-month-long stretches that I haven't bought a single thing. Luckily, there's always something horrible to take a picture of and send to my daughter, so even if I buy nothing, I still have fun.
DeleteHey, send me a message through my email at doing hard time in shaker heights. We need to meet for a drink.
ReplyDeleteWill do!
DeleteGood price on the Shiny Brites. My grandfather was trying to give away my grandmothers Christmas items... I don't know if he did or threw them out. He did throw out her Pyrex, though. He's realistic & knows she isn't coming home from the nursing home.
ReplyDeleteLike Erica said, if it's a pattern you can resell (either online or Craigslist/Kijiji), buy it, resell. I have the same theory: you'll have more money for the patterns you do want! Although, I am lazy.. too.
I'm starting to see more of the sets now, and in good condition, too! Never anything I want, of course. Sigh, I guess I'll have to start rethinking leaving good Pyrex behind.
DeleteI don't collect that Pyrex pattern either but I think for that price and condition, they would have been going home with me :)
