Thrifting Finds #5!

It wasn't a great weekend for me, but hubby cleaned up!  He got another giant amber glass bottle, this time at the Rescue Mission Thrift (first purchase there.)  It had part of the original Gemco price sticker still on it.  For some reason, I am obsessed with things that have their original stickers.  He also got some assorted glassware, but for the life of me I can't remember what.

On Sunday, we went to the Goodwill where we don't usually find anything and--didn't find anything!  On the way home we stopped at an "Enormous Yard Sale!!" that wasn't so enormous because it was the afternoon of the last day. Still, hubs picked up another set of those stupid champagne flutes with no base to fill in the missing colors of the set he already has.

We didn't do our usual Sunday thrifting rounds as I came down with a migraine on Saturday afternoon and didn't feel up to it.  Won't be able to go next Sunday either, for Reasons.  Oh, well.

I did pick up something at the Goodwill on Saturday while I was still feeling kind of human:  a couple of pieces of

Tupperware!  That little three-section dish is called a "Suzette" (marked on bottom.)  I got it despite not having a lid as I don't think I have ever seen one before.  The handle unscrews, so it's easy to cover with a piece of Saran.  I'm not quite sure about that red box.  It's really thick, sturdy plastic, much sturdier than necessary for holding leftovers.  Maybe it originally had some other use?  Anyone know?  They were $1.00 each.

Since we didn't go out thrifting on Sunday, I wanted to at least accomplish something, so I installed the first of three ceiling fans.  This one is over the bed:
I have to get one more to put at the other end of the room.  Eagly-eye readers will note that this is not the ceiling fan I mentioned here.  That one is for the den and is back ordered anyway, so there's no telling when it'll come in.

  1. I had one of those Suzettes when my kids were little (they are now in their mid to late 40s) and used it to carry a meal in to Grandma's house. Fill with compartments with food, snap on the lid (no need for the cute handle, used that for party foods at other times) and away we went. The red box I use for storing craft supplies, polished stones, wire and tools. Great finds.

    1. Thanks! I hope I can eventually find the lid for the Suzette. Yeah, I'm thinking that red box would be better for maybe keeping stuff in the car than for storing leftover tuna salad! I'll bet I could jump on it and it wouldn't crack!

  2. I love things with their original stickers, too...not sure why! I'm normally not a huge ceiling fan "fan" (ha) but that one looks really cool.

    1. I don't know what got me started on things with price stickers, but I love them! Weird, huh?
Thanks for the fan love--it took me quite a while to find one that I could live with--most of them are just butt-ugly.

  3. It's for ice cream!

I bought one (off white) when I was visiting my sister because I had one already & it kept cut fruit fresh for a long time because the lid snapped shut so tight. She was grossed out by it (lol) & we argued about it jokingly all weekend.. my cousin came over & we were arguing about it & she's like "he bought this disgusting Tupperware from the 1950's" & I brought it out of the room & my cousin said - "OMG! Grandma used to keep her ice cream in that."

    1. Wow, I don't think I ever would have thought of putting ice cream in it. I'll bet this sucker could go flying out the back of a speeding truck and still survive--it's that sturdy!

  4. The red Tupperware box, I believe, is their answer to the traditional "lunch box" for adults. Seems like they were issued in the 80's.

The box came with a snap on handle. And I think a couple of things inside of it. Maybe a container for a sandwich? And a small round holder with a lid. I have fuzzy memories of it. But I really do suspect it is a lunch box.

    1. I too have fuzzy memories of that lunch box thing. Funny, I found the matching red sandwich box this weekend, but didn't buy it. I still haven't decided what I'm going to keep in it!
